When it is time to face what makes you feel weak
Harley Quinn stood in front of the doors of the SOFIA House, staring at the steps that lead up the door. Ignoring the half-glances that some people threw her, as they passed by on the street.
She has been at this place before. SOFIA House helps women who come from abusive relationships, with their programming and services. And there were many times in the past that Harley had arrived at their Drop-Off Area, where she had donated food, clothing, or money.
Or there were times when she saw a woman that really hurt her heart. And discreetly followed her, to find out more about the abuser. Those visits often led to a mysterious accident for the abuser. Especially if Harley caught them in the act of hurting their victim.
Today... she is not here to donate... or to help another. She is here to help herself. After all this time... today is about resolving the effects an abuser had on her life.
With a click of her high-heeled boots, Harley walks up the stairs. Simply because of her colorful outfit, she still stood out from others who had walked the same steps before her. Sure she could have dressed in a way that didn't call attention to herself. Or kept her head down. And entered the building hoping that no one saw her.
But that was not her style. And she wouldn't hide what she was doing today.
She kept that confidence all the way down the hallway, until she came to the room where tonight's Survivors Sisterhood Group was gathered. A few other ladies who were already seated in chairs glanced up at Harley as she entered. She took a breath and found her way to a chair. And sat down.
Everything that she hears from that group, or tells the group, would never leave that room. Tonight they truly became her sisters. Listening to what she had to share (and understanding even if she didn't want to go into details). It was only a first step. But when the meeting ended, Harley knew she made the right decision to speak to others like her. It was a little place where she could belong.
