Playtime with the Girls (open post)

Harley has been a little restless the past month or so. While there is still some random jobs she gets from the Nexus, and from her world, it really has not been keeping her busy enough. And she needs a distraction. A distraction from the bad stuff that went down in her life … and just needs to surround herself with good friends. And a party.

So she decides to throw a "Girls Only" night at her Coney Island roller derby. She gets the place set up with decorations, lots of liquor, and lots of food. There is a place for people to get up and sing karaoke in one corner. And a quieter couch area in another corner.

The main focus is on the roller derby rink itself, where Harley is currently skating a few rounds.

She convinced a certain Angel messenger to deliver the invites out to as far as he could, so anyone from the Nexus could drop on by. The only rule of the night... was this was a Girls Night only.

"I'm sure there's a way. I've seen other people in the Nexus with their vehicles." Although they tended to be land vehicles and spaceships, she didn't see a reason why a ship that sailed on water couldn't also make its way into the Nexus, too.

"My Earth literature is kind of spotty," Adia replies. "I didn't grow up with it, but sometimes I'll pick up a book under someone's recommendation." She grins when skekSa talks about Earth's ocean life. "Oh, we have those. The colonies had sharks, too, actually. The biggest ones lived on Picon. Have you read about dolphins? Those are my favorite. There's an old myth that Lord Dionysius turned a bunch of drowning sailors into dolphins, and that's why they in turn will sometimes rescue people stranded at sea."

"Only when it's convenient for you," she says, not wanting to impose. "The Sifa are your crew? Cylons are a kind of robot. I guess android would be more accurate. My husband is a Cylon. Most of them are indistinguishable from humans, physically."

The Mariner's thought about that. Maybe there is a way she can bring Vassa to the Nexus - but she'll need to find it first, and possibly discuss it with the Sifa. She's curious now.

"Oh, I've read about dolphins and the legends surrounding them. Interesting creatures - once I find the ocean, I'll see what I can learn about the water animals here. If you're interested, you're welcome to join me, and so is your husband if he would like. You're curious and have a sense of adventure. It's something I respect in people. Inquisitive minds aren't always easy to come by."

She nods when the Sifa are mentioned. "I am their patron and Captain back home on Thra, so yes, they are my crew. I took a few here with me to help run the tavern, and you can meet them there."

"I can only imagine what you'll find in the Nexus. There's probably ocean life from many different kinds of worlds. What sort of animals live in the Silver Sea?"

The compliment has Adia blushing a little and ducking her head in acknowledgement. "Well, I mean, I am a scientist. I'd be pretty bad at my job if I wasn't at least a little bit curious. I'm not sure how adventurous I am, but I do like to try new things." So long as they don't trigger her social anxiety. She'd rather swim with sharks than ever get on a stage. At least she can count on the sharks not to judge her!

"You have a tavern on the Nexus? What's it called?" Adia isn't much of a drinker, so it's not a surprise that she's only hearing about this now.

"I study marine biology in my spare time. You have some fascinating creatures on your planet, which is one of the reasons I would like to visit the Earth. As for ours, we have fish, very much like yours. A little different, though. We also have Leviathans, which are massive and very rare. Large enough that one can be used as a ship, bigger than your biggest whales."

skekSa will have to survey the Nexus oceans. It's something to keep in mind for the future.

"My tavern is called The Scarlet Hooyim - named after a kind of fish from my planet. We're in the downtown part of the Nexus. We have a special sale on Talk Like A Pirate day, lass." The Mariner winks.

Adia's eyes widen at the mention of Leviathans. "It must be amazing to see such a large animal like that in the wild. Have you seen one? Whales actually aren't that common off the coast of Atlantis. We're in the middle of a large sea and I think the whales prefer the larger oceans. We have tons of fish, though." She smiles a bit in amusement. "Would you believe that it wasn't until I was almost an adult that I saw the ocean? I grew up on the plains of Leonis, the largest bodies of water nearby were lakes or rivers."

That's a colorful name for a tavern, and Adia is fairly confident that she'll remember it. skekSa's joke makes her giggle. "I'll try to brush up on my 'avast's and 'yo-ho-ho's until then."
