Playtime with the Girls (open post)
Harley has been a little restless the past month or so. While there is still some random jobs she gets from the Nexus, and from her world, it really has not been keeping her busy enough. And she needs a distraction. A distraction from the bad stuff that went down in her life … and just needs to surround herself with good friends. And a party.
So she decides to throw a "Girls Only" night at her Coney Island roller derby. She gets the place set up with decorations, lots of liquor, and lots of food. There is a place for people to get up and sing karaoke in one corner. And a quieter couch area in another corner.
The main focus is on the roller derby rink itself, where Harley is currently skating a few rounds.
She convinced a certain Angel messenger to deliver the invites out to as far as he could, so anyone from the Nexus could drop on by. The only rule of the night... was this was a Girls Night only.

Especially as Amelia is clearly a beginner. "Practice," she answers, before giggling at her silly joke. "Sorry. It's just about balance, really. You push off every so often with your feet and let the momentum carry you along. Your arms don't need to do much of anything."
She offers Amelia an arm. "Would you like me to pull you around a little bit? I'll go slow, I promise."

"You can do that? I'm not going to hurt you if I hold onto you?" It's a fair worry in Amelia's mind, since she seems to fall once every few minutes at a minimum. She takes a breath and cautiously reaches out to put one hand on Adia's arm. "If it won't cause you trouble... yes, I'd very much appreciate that."

Adia pats Amelia's hand and encourages her to hold on. "No, not unless you somehow fling me across the rink." She gives her friend a big smile to show that she's joking around. "Just glide with me and step when I do, it'll be fine. And don't look down at your feet, that's about the worst thing you can do."
When Amelia looks ready, Adia will gently push off with one skate, easing them away from the wall. She keeps an arm out in case Amelia stumbles, although they are going so slowly that Adia isn't terribly concerned.

The rogue appreciates the slow pace, though it doesn't stop her from clinging to Adia's arm harder than she should as she watches the other woman's feet. She doesn't understand at all how the motions work, but she does her best to mimic it very carefully.
After they've been moving around for a minute, she asks, "I-is there some trick to this? You're doing all the work while I can't figure out how to move my feet in a way that helps." It's incredibly frustrating, but also terrifying. Adia may not be worried about them falling, but Amelia is very conscious of the fact that she could fall over and pull them both down to the floor without any issues.

Maybe she should have told Amelia not to watch her feet, either, although she's not sure how else she can help her friend learn. Amelia is usually so confident in her movements, it's unusual to see her so wobbly and off-balance. "There's no trick, it's just getting used to it... here, let me try something else."
She readjusts Amelia's grip so that she's the one holding onto the rogue, one hand lightly on her arm and the other at the small of her back, like a pair of skating partners. "There, now push off and I'll keep pace beside you."

"All right, I'll give it a try..." She takes a deep breath and pushes off gently with one foot. They don't go very far because of it, but they don't topple at all either! Another push with her other foot is equally successful, though her technique is horrible and the direction in which they travel changes with each push.
"Am I doing this right?" she asks, chancing a look at Adia. It makes her next try at a glide even less successful, but her flailing in response is mitigated by Adia's closeness. Mostly. "I still feel like I'm not doing this wrong. How do we go forward instead of to the sides?"

When Amelia manages to push off successfully, not once, but twice, she beams and nods encouragingly. "Yeah, you are! You just need to keep your other foot facing the direction you want to go when you push off. Turn it forward and try pushing off again."
