Playtime with the Girls (open post)
Harley has been a little restless the past month or so. While there is still some random jobs she gets from the Nexus, and from her world, it really has not been keeping her busy enough. And she needs a distraction. A distraction from the bad stuff that went down in her life … and just needs to surround herself with good friends. And a party.
So she decides to throw a "Girls Only" night at her Coney Island roller derby. She gets the place set up with decorations, lots of liquor, and lots of food. There is a place for people to get up and sing karaoke in one corner. And a quieter couch area in another corner.
The main focus is on the roller derby rink itself, where Harley is currently skating a few rounds.
She convinced a certain Angel messenger to deliver the invites out to as far as he could, so anyone from the Nexus could drop on by. The only rule of the night... was this was a Girls Night only.

Lucifer takes her hand and stands easily on the skates, offering her other hand as well. "Have you ever been taught to dance? It is similar in many ways."

After taking a breath to steady herself, Amelia places her free hand in the one Lucifer offers and carefully pushes herself to her feet. Her legs, while powerful, aren't stopping her feet from rocking back and forth a little as the rogue struggles to balance.
"I've taken lessons, yes. It felt very similar to learning how to fight." She laughs softly as she meet's Lucifer's gaze. "Skating hasn't felt much like either to me. Is there some trick to this that I haven't figured out yet?"
no subject
Lucifer stiffens her arms as the rogue starts to wobble. "It is like learning to dance because you watch and follow the teacher. Keep your eyes up on my face, not your feet."
She's strong enough and fast enough to catch Amelia if she starts to fall. "Also, like dancing or fighting, do not lock your knees or stiffen. It takes you off balance."
Here Lucifer waits for the human to gain her legs.

She nods along with the instruction, trusting in the strength of the hands holding hers. It's not much instruction to start, but it gets Amelia started. She allows herself a moment longer to look down at her feet before looking back up at Lucifer. Starting with bending her knees, she does her best to stay tense, but not locked throughout her body. Doing even that helps with her balance, though she's still a little wobbly when she decides it's time to try in earnest again.
"Bent knees and balance," she repeats, slightly breathless. "I'll need some practice with this, but I'll keep that in mind. What else do I need to do?"
no subject
And the other half he was a phenomenal jerk, but Lucifer doesn't mention that part.
"Good." Lucifer smiles. "Now, I will pull you along so you can get your legs. Eyes up on me and focus on your balance."
Once Amelia seems ready, Lucifer will very slowly start pulling here. She is stable skating backwards, but she is ready to catch the rogue if things go astray.
no subject
Is she teasing Lucifer as a way to distract herself or a form of flirting? It's impossible to tell for sure given the smirk the rogue fixes on the angel.
The distraction certainly helps when Lucifer begins skating backwards. Amelia gasps and grips the angel's hands tighter as she at first lets herself be pulled along helplessly before she manages to try and follow the motion with her feet. It's a struggle and even with her knees bent, her balance falters a lot as they move along.
"I don't know how to move my feet," she murmurs between tense breaths. She breaks her eye contact with Lucifer to try and figure out the movements she's supposed to be copying. "What's the secret for this?"
no subject
Lucifer has to slow and then stops to think about what her feet are doing when skating. It was such a natural movement. "You push back and slightly out, alternating feet."
That seemed right, she slowly starts again paying more attention to what her feet are doing.

The instruction is appreciated, but also confusing. The movement doesn't sound natural at all, even when using dance as a parallel. "Back and out?" Amelia tries it a few times, doing her best to copy Lucifer's movements. It somewhat works, but she can't maintain it for more than a few pushes at a time. When she finally looks up to ask Lucifer another question, she uses a little too much strength and pushes one of her feet right out from underneath her.
"Ah, help!" Her eyes go wide as both feet slide out behind her. She grips Lucifer's hands harder, trying to use them as a balance to bring her feet back in so she can get her shins underneath herself for a softer landing. The skates prevent the motion, though, and she finds herself falling face first toward the ground instead. All she can hope for now is Lucifer being able to slow her down or catch her before she hits at full speed.

Lucifer easily has Amelia before she crashes into the ground. The shifting weight as the woman flails challenges Lucifer's sense of balance but aid by her wings she manages to keep them both upright.
"If you wished a hug you could have asked." Lucifer flirts as she pulls Amelia upright and stable on the wheels.
no subject
"I don't think I'm steady enough for that yet," she jokes poorly. There's also the matter of that being very close for Amelia, but that's not exactly on her mind at the moment. Right now she's far more concerned with staying upright and getting at least the basics of skating down before she has to get escorted off the rink.
Taking a breath, the rogue pulls her feet inward and underneath her again to steady herself. Once she's no longer actively falling over, she tries again to push herself along, this time using far less strength and shorter movements. It's not terribly successful, but she doesn't wobble enough to fall over after a minute of practicing.
"Is that better?" She takes a quick peek at her feet then looks back up at Lucifer, a nervous expression on her face. "I can't tell if I'm doing this right."
no subject
"Would it be easier to skate beside me?" She offer as they start moving again. "Right now it is more important to do what keeps you moving and upright. Technique comes later. It is just like fighting or dancing. You learn basics first and then you gain flair and finesse."
If references or comparisons helped Lucifer could go with it. Still, she had a fatherly/motherly patience after eons of training angels and her own children. It made Lucifer a natural teacher for anyone who was giving their best effort.

"Fighting, at least, I didn't have to worry about hurting anyone but myself with my terrible first swings." Not true of when she was learning to use a slingshot, but no one was ever seriously hurt by the teenage rogue before she learned to control both her strength and the weapon in her hands. "I don't want to interrupt anyone by rolling into them uncontrollably." Which is a very real possibility in her mind, given her lack of coordination.
As they make a very slow and awkward turn, Amelia sighs heavily. "If only this were more like dance. I could learn the footwork easily enough on my own, but being held in place by a strong lead was helpful." Though, maybe... that's what Lucifer meant with skating side-by-side? She looks up at the angel nervously. "If we skated beside each other... would it be like that? One person leading and the other following?"
no subject
It was too good of a word play and a deprecating jab at her own situation to pass up. The mirth has barely left her voice. "I have seen my brother get clipped by an unskilled apprentice, more than once."
Lucifer came to a stop when Amelia mentioned dancing, thoughtful. "Perhaps we should move to the carpet where there is more friction. I think your legs may be less likely to get away than out here on the polished wood. I think that way, beside you would work."
no subject
When they come to a stop, the rogue tilts her head curiously at Lucifer. "We can skate on the carpet?" No one else is doing it, so Amelia simply assumed it wasn't allowed or wouldn't work. She looks over to the carpeted area and shrugs. "If you think it would help, trying it it couldn't hurt." Not anymore than all of her previous falls, at least.
no subject
Lucifer very slowly and gently leads her over toward the carpet so she can get used to her wheels. "I think it will help. I have seen human children learn this way."
